Digital Marketing Career Options for a CCE Grad

digital marketing career options

Digital marketing is a varied field that encompasses many specialty areas. Most digital marketers take on the idea of “dabble in everything, specialize in something”. Because there are so many specialty areas in this field, there are countless digital marketing career paths that can be followed. CCE at Assumption’s online certificate in digital marketing provides students with the skills they need to find their niche in the marketing world. It aims to help students expand upon the skills that they already have and to give them a strong foundation in marketing. What are some digital marketing career options that CCE prepares its graduates for?

Digital Marketing Career Options for a CCE Grad

CCE’s digital marketing certificate program was built specifically to prepare graduates for careers in various digital marketing specialties. Each course has a purpose: to teach a specific set of skills.

All Digital Marketing

The Skills:

No matter what career path you decide to follow within digital marketing, you cannot do it without a strong foundation. Whether you want to specialize in content marketing, SEO, social media, or something else, you need to have a basic understanding of marketing, the strategies that marketers use, and the way customers interact with brands.

The Classes:

MGT 101E: Foundations of Marketing. In this course, students learn how to analyze, plan, and manage marketing activities. The course teaches students to trace the marketing path: “environmental monitoring of opportunities, internal assessments of goals, resources, and constraints; formulation of marketing strategy; development of marketing programs (interface of product, price, promotion, and distribution), financial analysis, and marketing control (strategic and operational).” This is a hands-on course that gives students the opportunity to study marketing plans and create plans of their own.

MGT 130E: Digital Marketing Strategies. While Foundations of Marketing familiarizes students with marketing in general, Digital Marketing Strategies narrows the focus to the tactics that are used in digital marketing. Students will learn about common marketing tactics such as SEO, inbound and outbound marketing, blogging, email marketing, and more. They will learn to use marketing tools and implement these strategies.

MGT 308E: Consumer Marketing Behavior. How do consumers interact with companies? What processes do they go through when selecting and using a product or service? Many factors influence consumer behavior, and this course gives students the opportunity to study environmental, individual, and psychological influences.

Analytics

The Skills:

How can a company set and track goals? How can they see if something is wrong with their digital marketing strategy or if they aren’t hitting their targets? Digital marketing analysts use tools to monitor and analyze data, which the company can base marketing decisions on.

The Classes:

MGT 140E: Digital Analytics. If you’re marketing digitally, you need to be able to monitor your progress digitally. This course teaches students about web analytics technologies used in digital marketing as well as how to assess the data and track performance indicators. Students will review online metrics, track campaigns, and review management dashboards.

MGT 235E: Marketing Research and Analytics. Good marketing is based on data. This course will teach students to perform research about market trends, consumer behavior, and demographics. Students will learn how to conduct studies and how the information gathered can help in marketing decision making.

Social Media

The Skills:

Social media marketers are experts at using social platforms to reach potential customers. They use social media as a way to share knowledge and news as well as to engage with prospects. Social media management involves sharing all of your company’s marketing assets while being engaging and authentic. While many people are social media savvy these days, not everyone has the knowledge and skill required to be a social media manager.

The Class:

MGT 230E: Social Media Marketing. This class helps students to learn about social media sites that are important for business marketing, including LinkedIn, Twitter, Facebook, and Instagram – but it doesn’t stop there. Social media is always evolving, so social media marketers need to evolve, too. Students learn about new social platforms as they become relevant, and they also learn the techniques that are necessary to reach your audience on social. This will include social advertising and campaign tools, as well as how to incorporate techniques such as blogging, video, and photography.

Search Engine Optimization

The Skills:

When was the last time you clicked on page two of Google search results? Consumers don’t want to search for hours to find the answers they’re looking for – so if a company isn’t ranking well on search engines, it’s not going to get much business. Search engine optimizers understand how to increase the visibility of website content to attract more customers through organic search.

The Class:

MGT 240E: Search Engine Optimization. Students will learn about tools and strategies that are used to reach higher search engine rankings. They will spend time analyzing the effectiveness of these tactics and learn how to optimize websites, web pages, and mobile content to attract site visitors.

Content Marketing

The Skills:

People buy from companies that they feel they can trust, so how can companies earn that trust? Content marketing involves creating content such as blogs, emails, ebooks, and more that help consumers to solve their problems. Content marketing is valuable because it shows consumers that a company understands their pain and has a solution.

The Class:

ENG/MGT 260E: Writing and Content Management. It’s no surprise that the content marketing course is also an English course! Students will learn about effective content creation and persuasive writing, as well as how businesses can communicate with their target audience effectively. They will learn about writing formats including emails, newsletters, blogs, and more.
